The duke looked into Rina's opal eyes holding a hand out towards the resveld girl. " Esdel Alypius Gandibert, Duke of West Waymoore." He held is hand out stiff and cold, his cheeks filling up with more and more red.
Rina stared awkwardly at the man for a while he shoved his face back into the map. She fidgeted her fingers nervously. The girl did not want to keep annoying him but she wanted to know who this man was. She decided to introduce herself. "My name's Rina. What's yours?" she said. Her eyes focuses on his freckled cheeks while he kept looking into the map. Rina waited for a few seconds when he turned around slowly and responded.
Esdel's ears perked up to the sound of a female voice, he turned to her wide eyed and pale faced. At first he stood there silent with his mouth open before dropping his raised shoulder and stuttering on his words for a moment. The young man traced a boney finger on a line that danced across the map. "Well, uh, see, how, uh...." he cleared his throat, freckled cheeks filling up with red. "No. Well maybe. Kinda. Crossing here is our best bet but I can't seem to figure out how...." Esdel returned his gaze to the map, squinting at it's markings.
The stream, too deep to cross, was on the trail to Elantris. Rina noticed a man further down the river's bank. He seemed distraught as was Rina. She slowly walked up to the man who had his face to a map. She asked him "Is there another way?" but there was no response. Rina's eye twitched in annoyance. She asked once again and he finally noticed her.
The young man scrunches his face at the sight of a stream that was far too deep to just walk cross. The stream moved much more rapidly then most streams did, rocks stuck straight out of the water as a warning to anyone who tried to cross. Esdel pulled a crinkled map out of his bag that was stuffed to the brim with trinkets and other useless items. He shifted himself foot to foot causing small branches and leafs to crack under his weight as he stared deeply into the ink that decorated the vellum. The duke scratched his nose and furrowed his brows as he moved the map closer to his face.
