Esdel was slammed against the stone wall of an alley that hid between the towering building of Elantris. The young duke's head bounded of the wall and he shouted out in agony. A hand of a much stronger resveld wrapped around his neck, the other man spoke in a horse-tone. "I know who you are, I know who your father is." Esdel began to shake, his ability to breath was cut. He was grasping for any air his lungs could get in, unable to get any words out. The young man's eyes began to tear up and he couldn't tear the man's hand from around his neck. Kicking his feet and trying to wiggle out of the grasp of the man, the man over powered the young duke tightening his grip.

To be successful in the world of magicks, you first must be familiar with the very basics of magicks.  There are many different types of magicks; each having its own sorts of rules and traits, but all magicks have the same roots. The first step in any spell is honoring Nira, although magicks is simply for most practical purposes it is truly a religious practice.  Pay attention to your surroundings, what is happening in the world can strongly affect your magick, it’s more than just your skill level. Even the most basic things can affect the way your magicks work. Keep in mind the tide, where it is currently and how much it has buried under its waves. A high tide is the time for binding, banishing or destroying. While in the time of a low tide; break old habits, get rid of all unpleasant feelings and aliments for when the tides have weathered the ruble of the lands it has swallowed, and new lands are revealed that is when magicks is at its most potent.  Our bodies and magicks go in cycles much like how our world dose, different magicks users might find that their spells, potions, enchantments and everything of that sort reacts differently depending on the environment. For example, those who may do well at casting spells in the warmer atmospheres might find that they struggle to cast even a simple illusions spell in a place below freezing.  Be aware of which house the sun, moons and other planets are currently in. Certain magicks will only preform their best while their house is in the right location.  Acquiring an ‘Astrological Houses’ book would be your best bet on nailing down when to preform those more difficult magicks.  It is not the items that make the magick, the item is simply a vessel for all magicks users to channel their energy into the said item. Although every magick is different they all share common roots. Alters are an excellent way on focusing and getting prepared before practicing any new spell. Whenever going into trying out a new spell it is crucial to be in a comfortable environment and truly focused, do not risk any harm. If working on a combat skill, practice on dummies before you move on to real people. Magicks have a high chance of going wrong when casted even with the most skilled user. Causes of wild magicks could be; emotions, environment and lack of focus. Do not rush into casting any spell. There are three main kinds of magicks, potions, elemental and enchantments. Each type of magic is unique in it's own way and all has different rituals yet in the end they tie together. Potions is the process of taking slightly magickal items and channeling your magicks into them to create a brew with a purpose, we're not just making tea here. Elemental is the manipulation of the world's magicks being used for personal reasons. Enchantments is the channeled focus into items, the runes drawn are not magickal themselves but it truly within the user. Visualization: Using your mind’s eye to reshape your reality Intent: Your purpose for the magicks Deosil: Clockwise Widdershens- Counter Clockwise Sigil: a symbol used to represent a word or group of words

The sun poured in through the gaps of the heavy curtains. Cold air crept through the underneath the walls, sending a chill up the young man’s spine. He curled up tighter under the fine fabric that made up his covers, looking for warmth within the liens. Three small knocks made with hesitation were placed on the heavy wood that was the Duke’s door. “Sir, your sisters have called for you in the front room. Please make haste.”  Esdel opened his brown orbs and peered around the room, dreading coming out of his chambers. Slowly stretching out and pushing the covers away from his pale frame, Esdel had truly felt the cool of the autumn air. The young man let his feet touch the creaky floor as he stretched some more, pulling each muscle in every direction his body would allow him to. As he stood up his head felt heavy and his vision had gone horribly blurry causing him to sway side to side but only for a moment. Esdel barely picked up his feet as he made his way to the covered window. With a slow motion, he pulled back the curtains allowing the sun to creep in further, one ray at a time. The duke got dressed in his garments and made his way down the empty halls letting the frosty air rattle his bones.  As the youngest of the Gandibert siblings had finally made his way to the front room to the worried look of his sisters the eldest; Calista spoke. “It’s nice to finally see you in the morning light rather than cooped up in darkness reading a book in your chambers with nothing but a candle by your bedside.” Esdel sighed then shrugged his shoulders. “I don’t think I have to leave my chambers if I can explore all of the world with a book.” Niamh, the second youngest, bit her tongue and adjusted herself in her seat.  “Why did you want to speak with me?” “We worry about you. This time of year, your fits of sorrow make you unbearable to be around. We’d like for you to leave Waymoore for a trip down to the Washed City in hopes that the change of atmosphere will break this cycle.” Esdel swallowed hard and found the inner sides of his palms getting sweaty.  “Alone? You can’t expect me to make such a journey myself without never seeing me again.” Another gust of wind made its way through the home making each sibling shiver.  “Don’t be silly, Del.” Niamh finally spoke. “We will send word of your arrival to ensure your safe travels and a welcoming stay in Elantris. Both of us have decided it is what’s best for you and we have come to the agreement that if we came with you, you will not be able to learn to cope with your aliment.” The youngest Gandibert took a step forward as if to protest but quickly stood back in line. A thick cloud of emotions began to fill the room as all children dreaded the words that would escape Calista’s mouth.  “The servants have already prepared a satchel for you and have already arranged everything for your trip.” Small droplets of tears began to form in the corners of all three siblings' eyes. “It is best that you leave now so that you may arrive in Elantris in a timely manner.” Although the words were cold, a certain kind of warmth that only love could bring quickly replaced the dark emotional cloud. “Please write to us the moment you find yourself in the Washed City.” A warm embrace was shared amongst the family, each member taking their time to say their goodbyes. Esdel had finally let the tears that had been threatening to fall to his cheek come when suddenly a small but comforting hand had made its way to his pale face. “We love you so much. I hope you come back the best magicks user West Waymoore has ever seen.” Niamh’s final words had put a smile on her brother’s face as he began his trip to the city everyone has been rushing to see. “May Nira guide you.”

Name-  Esdel Alypius Gaudibert Age- 19 Occupation-Nobel, Duke of West Waymoore Species- Meladrin From-  West Waymoore   A rather tall lad, Esdel stands around 6’3 when standing up straight all whilst looking awkward with his long limbs. The young man has a long face with soft round dark brown eyes. His features were strong and accompanied by a angular jawline. His skin is the color of crème but with splatters of brown freckles decorating it. The most freckle decorated parts of his face were his nose bridge and the apples of his cheeks. Stars of tan danced across in a line from cheek to cheek varying in size and darkness. On top of his head sat loose curls of chestnut that never sat flat but that didn’t really seem to bother the young Esdel. The top half of the Duke's hair was longer than the sides and was pushed off to one side but still commonly in the way. Esdel wears robes that display his status proudly, he is in the traditional colors of the meldarin with hints of a dark yellow. Since his time in Elantris, the hair that sat a top of Esdel's head has grown longer than he is use to with the curls becoming more noticeable. Esdel is not the most confident or the best with words and he tends to keep to himself and has small moments of discouragement whenever something goes wrong as it happens but overtime he allows the small things to build up and eat at his being. He is often told he is being too hard on himself but he feels he must know how truly terrible he is so he must work harder. Speaking to others isn’t one of Esdel’s strongest talents but he attempts to his best ability which often leds to a lot of stammering and snappish tones. Although Esdel is known in his small town as being warm and open during the winter months when the sunlight has been cut short Esdel’s help and the people of the town notice him start to close up like a flower in the cold. Grey skies led to Esdel to have periods of deep sorrow where he is diminished to nothing but a weeping pile of blankets. He is often over emotional and dramatic about silly things. Although not particularly a loner he dose enjoy spending time alone and finds comfort in quite spaces. Esdel's hobbies include reading books, drinking tea, dabbling in writing and eating sweets. He prefers to stick to the things he knows and has a hard time breaking his habits. Post Elantris Esdel is still introverted and shy but now has the confidence in himself to do whatever he so puts his mind too. The Gandibert family has been helping Esdel cope with with Winter Sorrow by sending him off to Elantris every winter. Esdel's anxieties have calmed and his habit of chewing on his nailbeds has diminished. Esdel strives to know everything and everything there is about magicks and desperately wants to improve his skills. Esdel since his enlightenment with Nira has mastered all magicks. Skills Magic I level3, Magic II level2, and Magic III level2 Mastered If there's anything that can be said without a doubt about Esdel is that he loves his family very dearly. Since a young age Esdel had adored his two older sisters Calista and Niamh. Calista was older by six years and has always been the one Esdel turned to for comfort and advice. The eldest sister took on very much of a maternial role in her younger siblings lives sense their parents; Grand Duke Bardol and Lady Ysabell were often gone on trips across the land. Lady Ysabell was killed by Duke Bardol for racial issues followed by a messy divorce. Grand Duke Bardol passed away due to unknown reasons by there is a rumor that he was murdered by the revolt. The second eldest sister Niamh had always exceeded everyone's expectations. This young woman did what she wanted whenever she willed often leading her to get into trouble. Niamh was there for Esdel whenever he found himself in situations where he'd have to leave his comfort zone behind.
