The Washed City had attracted more variance in faces and ears than any other place On the Nitan Moon's available lands mass. Despite claims and rumors that the city once flooded in sea water would be too flooded with bodies, Elantris had grown some semblance of government already. Devout Maladrin clerics of Nira stood over a council of a handful of noblemen from Resveld who'd all spend some sum of a fortune to pay a portal master to take them directly to the city once the rumors were confirmed it really did exist.
Many of the livable spaces had been claimed under ownership by the council, and they would rent a space to anyone willing to work trade for service to the city.
High walls, bleached white by time reach high above your head as armed soldiers dawning the blues of their homeland shuffled newcomers, the hundreds of them, into uneven lines.
"Declare yourself and your homeland, any immediate skill in combat, or other viable service you might offer to citizens of Elantris!"
"Have ready your name, full--all of it!" They paced the lines, giving out the same information in the same tired shout for the half hour it seems to take for it to finally be your turn. You step up to the official, marked out by a mark of Nira shining in azure at their forehead.
"Name, land, and skill please," the clerk says without sweetness as she looks up to squint at you. She notes your appearance as you speak.
[[emote a response, providing what the clerk notes about your appearance]]

Taryn remained exactly as he was, an image of stone. He watched as most left, and took note of those who stayed. The jumble of determination, fear, and sorrow could be felt in waves as families, groups, and singles left the cathedral. Taryn had not lost sight of the beige Resveld robes, but for now, he couldn't worry about that. He had to ensure his spot to remain in Elantris. So with this determination, he set how out the cathedral to learn his new world.
Ronin looks up toward the roof with a empty stare and smirks. He puts his had over his eye then back to his sword. Then he snaps back to reality to the sound of the family siting beside him, with wide eyes he watches them as they cry.
Elaina slowly stands from her seat. she looks around at everyone talking. She has no idea where to go or what to do. She then notices a man directing everyone outside a wooden door. She hesitates but follows the crowd.
Rina slowly rises from her seat and turns towards Titania. She stretches out and thinks about what her future will be like. She has to stay in Elantris for her mother's sake. She takes a deep breathe and makes the most important decision she has made in her life. She asks Titania what she will do and she says she is also staying. Rina releases the air she was holding in and eases up.
With hearing all of what he had to say Ronin gets up and starts to leave but as he turns he feels someone tug at his shirt. He turns to see a girl his age "May I ask you why do you leave so soon?" she asks eagerly. He looks at her with an empty stare and responds" I have no need to prey for a god that has only led me to this place." And walks way
It was a scene filled with chaos and commotion inside the large room. Apollyon pushed and shoved through the crowd trying to find the exit. His efforts were unsuccessful and as he turned to look for a new path the spark destined for his chest landed upon him. It was calming and bright, but he resisted it as much as he could. The room was entirely calm for a moment, but soon all the sparks were gone and the panic set into the room once again.
Esdel’s only reply to the cleric's speech was a simple hard swallow. He bent his chest over his knees and buried his head into his hands. The voice of the crowd grew in intestacy causing Esdel to move his hands from his face to his hears in attempt to block out at least some the noise. Esdel felt a shift in weight in the space next to him, the presents of another person sitting within a close proximity of his presence caused Esdel to go stiff until he felt the warmth of an arm being wrapped round his shoulders. The simple gesture calmed the young duke, his body relaxed and he took in a deep breath.
Temple sits waiting for the crowd to thin, still holding herself close. She put her head between her knees, she was starting to breath heavy and her body was shaking, her nerves getting to her.
The crowed erupted into an uproar. Everyone chattering of their worry about what they may become. Many around Seline seemed overwhelmed. The boy she had ran into sat with his head buried in his hands. Seline sat gently next to him, closer than she was before. Sensing his anxiety, she wrapped her arm around him, in an attempt to calm her new friend.
Trendran, startled by the man vanishing, proceeded to find another way out of the room before the crowd starts pushing him towards the main exit. so to avoid the mess he climbs his way up onto a windowsill and slides his way through one of the open windows out into the empty city that is already filling in with people.
Eartha slowly stands up after the man vanishes. She has a very confused and focused look on her face as she walks out of the building. Eartha is now realizing just how serious being here really is. Eartha begins to get nervous because she isn't sure what she needs to do but she releases all the tension in her body as she realizes she is going to figure it all out as time goes on.
Titania grabs Rina's hand turns to her and says," What do we do ?" Rina's lips speak when a crowd carries her adrift. Grabbing her satchel, she runs out in a hurry before the crowd can devour her. The light at the end of the building is faint just barely visible to the human eyes. Escaping seems near to impossible.
Small sparks fluttered around like butterflies, attaching themselves to people's chest. When Oddir's spark came, he did not resist it's attempt to attach. Upon contact, the spark had a unique warmth to it, as if it was holy. It's feeling made Oddir's body feel relaxed and made it feel like he haven;t even went on the journey in the first place. Soon though, the spark will disappear, making Oddir return to the feeling he had before the spark.
Elaina looks around the room, looking back and forth at all of the people talking. Some full of excitement and others filled with fear worrying about their families. As she sinks into her seat her face tuns bright red and her eyes start filling with tears as she says "My father, What about my father?"
Basil stands, stretching and acting like this Phinean guy didn't just give her the best news of her entire life. She looks at Chim and gestures for him to follow her as the crowd starts to exit the building. Looking above everyone's head, she walks out towards the bright sunlight.
“But there is more, settle, settle.” He walks out from around the lectern, taking his time until the room was quiet.
“We are grateful to Her for the blessing of you and all that was left for us. We are the chosen, and Nira sees us! She will test our worth, for it is she who allowed the city to be, and it shall be her who decides its patrons.”
He makes a grand gesture, opening his arms, and letting out a shower of sparks. They dissipate into the crowd, every creature being pinged by a single spark in their chest.
“And now each of you must decide if your place is truly to be a citizen of Elantris, or if it is better suited that another take your place.
Remember that murder, theft, and falsity is prohibited within the city walls. Travel into the Mistborn Forest is forbidden without council approval or under the protection of the Inquisitors.
As a curate of Nira, I welcome each of you, and from here you may all decide. Yes, your everyday life may be unimpressive--a merchant, a farmhand, a sailor--but being chosen, you must all rise to take your place! Will you serve as a Cleric, a Templar, or an Inquisitor? Which is your path?”
He gestures for the assembly to rise. “May Nira bless you, children.” And then he vanishes.
Apollyon was physically stunned and found himself unable to move because the words that had come out of the clerks mouth. He then looked around and scanned the group of people in the room. It was a very diverse group of people from all over the world. The room continued to fall further and further into confusion as Apollyon stood in stunned silence.
Trendran sits silently as people around him erupt in frustration, anger, and excitment. "so we are in a grand city, and we all have our reasons, that doesn't mean someone can just say we are all here because of a god's choice'' Tren pulls out his pack and starts rummaging through his belongings.
Temple looked around in confusion, the room around her roaring to life with angry shouts and yells. She pulled her hood over her head, and moved her body closer to herself. The loud commotion causing her distress. Her face was blank, she was still processing what was just said.
Titania looked around worried looks were plastered across their faces. Her face remained straight and lacked pigment almost a calm look. Titania's blue eyes scanned the room her pupils were soulless. Her train of thought was abruptly ruined by clusters of people bumping her.
Seline looked around, the audience's chatter continued to get louder as more began to panic. Even the young man she had run into seemed baffled at what Phinean had announced. The faces of the crowd showed a range of emotions from bewildered to scared or angry.
"I have to be with my family" She was barely audible, her voice was carried away into the roaring crowd.
Rina stared at the podium while thinking about what this meant. Titania tapped Rina's shoulder and asked, "What does this mean?". Rina shook her head as a tear went down her cheek. She did not want to cry but thoughts of her aunt came to her and she was sad. Rina looked around at the hundrerds of people around her as they all shared the same emotion.
The young duke furrowed his brow and cocked his head to the side. He looked to the woman beside him attempting to read her face but couldn’t look her in the eyes. Esdel turned round in his seat peering at the crowds faces but each face displayed different emotions. The young duke swallowed hard and his eyes went wide as he tried to adjust himself back in the not so comfortable chair. Taking in a deep breath and rubbing the hem of his shirt between his thumb and forefinger, Esdel kept his eyes either on the ground or on a person passing by looking for clues. His ear perked up the voiced that stood out of the white noise of the crowd and he smiled lightly to himself as his heart rate became audible.
Basil looked around and noticed everyone seemed displeased with the announcement, but she smiled anyway. She was chosen by Nira herself to come to Elantris and her controlling mother couldn't find her to make sure she's practicing her magic and keeping her hair clean. She was finally free.
When the cleric's booming words reached Oddir's ears, he was put back. He pondered on the situation. He looked towards the altar and through the glass the sun shined brightly. He concludes that the cleric must not be a liar but speaks true. Oddir smiles confidently, with a ready to take on the obstacles that lies ahead of him face.
As Eartha is listening to this man speak, her face lights up as she gets a sudden urge of nervousness, as well as excitement that she was chosen for this. She turns to the 2 girls she's sitting with and talks to them about how much of an honor and excitement it is that they have this opportunity.
The speaker takes the podium, standing behind a lectern of gold and grey stone. He draws with a small bit of rune chalk onto it, the image igniting in purple light and floating up onto his throat. He speaks with an amplified voice through enchantment.
“Settle and be at peace. Let the sensible man wait for my decree before he calls out its injustice.”
The room settles as he waits for everyone to turn front, shuffle into a collective ear, and cease their talking. The majority oblige and he goes on still with a boom of sound. Hundreds look on as he speaks calmly with the tone of greatness.
“I am Phinean Ordell, cleric of Nira, and temporary representative of Elantris logistical coordination team. We consider ourselves leaders and have come to serve as such for the benefit of all who seek Elantris for their home. However,” he pauses to look around.
“You must know that you have been chosen to live here by a series of wards placed by Nira herself. If you’ve found the gates--if you are here now--then you were called to be here by divine will. Do not doubt your place, as Nira’s plots for us are bound by many hands of all our blessings and evils. It matters not who you are, but who you will become has already been chosen to live in The Washed City of Elantris!” The room erupts into a flurry of voices, calls, and confused whispers. The general tone of it was an anger that worried for what else this meant. Were they allowed to leave? Will their family be able to join them? How will those who had already traveled behind them, the hundreds in line behind them just days ago, survive without a home? What will happen to their ancestors once it is time to wash the city once again?
The cathedral is beautifully lit up with various stained glasses depicting a feat of Nira's. At the very front, above the altar, shows a beautiful fountain with Nira pouring a bowl of water into the top. This is the famous "Nira's Fountain", which is responsible for the city's survival under the ocean. Oddir scans the room, hoping to look for a seat farthest from the altar. He spots one in the bottom right corner and squeezes his way through, with people complaining about various things. Oddir arrives at his seat and flops onto to it, exhausted from the travel.
Peering around the room Esdel’s eye was caught by a chair sitting empty in a row of any other empty chairs when suddenly a brunet girl had bumped into him, startling him momentarily and making his eyes go wide. The young woman started heading towards the rows of empty chairs and he followed her attempting to not follow too closely as to not creep her out. The brown-haired woman sat calmly in a seat and Esdel sat next to her
Seline was shaken from running into the stranger at the door. She had apologized but still felt bad. As she walked towards the seats she noticed the man was still following her. He sat right next to her for the assembly. Seline watched him, had she already made a friend?
Apollyon looks for any group of nobles to sit by and begin the art of politics. He spots a group of people dressed elegantly, and guessing they are nobles, he pushes his way over to them. He takes a seat and gracefully enters the conversation while everyone fills the chapel.
He scans the room for a set in the back. He spots one and herries to the seat. With his hand on his sword he looks around.
Basil leads the way to the front row where there's just enough room for her and Chimodo. She takes a seat, proudly sitting with her shoulders back and chin up. She wants people to know her name. She looks around taking in her surroundings and taking note on people in the large crowd.
Ember breaks away from Retni as she breaks for an open seat near the front. Oddly enough Ember ends up seated right next to Retni. " We meet again," Retni says lightly.
Titania sits and turns to the whit haired girl, “Hello I’M titania and you are?”
“Eartha” she explains
“This is Rina, we’re both from the kingdom or Rosada”
Rina looks around as people scream and shout all around her. She tenses up as the volume continually rises in the cathedral.
Eartha and the 2 girls sitting down, are sitting in amazment at how many people are being pushed into this room
More clerks in the same robes ring bells at the top of the cathedral stairs. More people than the newcomers are being funneled into the hall. It looks like it could be the entire city in population. At the door, somehow, the pulpit all fits. There might even be a seat for you since there are many who elect to stand in the back, obviously not happy about mandatory meetings.
Complaints are shouted randomly throughout the room. “Whasit’ all aboot’ then ahe?”
“Why are we here? This is ridiculous.”
“They can’t make us leave!”
“We just got here!”
Seline began to walk through the grand streets. The sun radiated through the city, its light enhanced by the opulent white buildings. The crowd was pushing past her, but she stayed back, consuming every small detail of this magnificent city. She continued to following the crowd moving towards the assembly. As Seline was entering the assembly, she crashed into a tall Meladrin man.
Ember starts to look around at all the buildings. Her eyes glow in wonder as she begins to think about the potential of the city. She trips over her feet, kicking dirt up behind her. "Ew! Are you kidding me?" A girl behind Ember scoffs. Ember starts to trip over her words, trying to think of what to say. Ember notices the girl starting to grin. "I'm just playing! My names Retni. Just trying to clear the air, the clerks around here make everyone so tense." Ember chuckles and smiles at Retni as they continue to walk to the assembly.
Apollyon's slow walk grinds to A halt as he looks around at the great washed city. It is absolutely stunning. The structures oddly remind him of home, but they are much brighter and immaculate compared to his long departed kingdom. Apollyons moment of awe is cut short by a rough push from behind administered by one of the new citizens eager to get to the assembly. Apollyon follows suit and starts the long walk to the assembly that was being held within the glorious cathedral.
Over taken by the beauty of the city Ronin is almost trampled by the horde of people. Regaining his balance he heads to the outer sides of the crowd to better see the city. Looking around he has forgotten all that has happened to him, but like a rock the memories hit him and he continues to fallow the crowd.
Esdel attempted to avoid making any physical contact with any person passing by, rounding his shoulders and standing as straight as possible. Being the tall man he was, Esdel was able to peer over most peoples’ heads, taking in the sights of the city. The sight of so many people caused Esdel to swallow hard and keep his head low, just following where ever the crowd took him. He barely picked up his feet, fine shoes dragging against the stone walkways. Esdel squinted his eyes for the light that the white stones reflected was too much for the shut-in.
Rina looks around at the glorious city in awe. She accidentally trips on a girl with silver hair. The girl helps her up and Rina notices a bracelet on her right wrist that only people from Rosada wear. She was from Rosada too. Rina introduced herself to the girl. Her name was Titania. Titania and Rina walk into the assembly and sit down next to a girl with white hair. The assembly starts.
Titania turns her head to a girl with brown hair and pointy ears, “I don’t mind these rules” the girl abruptly walks away. Titania has a look of discontent, when suddenly a girl with purplish silver hair falls on her. Quickly glancing up, she sees her right wrist has a bracelet with a rose pendant. Instinctivley Titania helps her up and they proceed to sit down. A girl with white hair and ocean blue eyes sits to the left of them.
Basil looks around trying (and obviously failing) not to smile. She can hardly contain her excitement. As she scans the crowd, she notices many types of people, Meladrin and Resveld alike. She can't tell if Chim is as excited as she is. She looks down at her feet, hiding her childlike complexion in order to seem cool to her new peers.
Temple looks around at the large white buildings, which were much different from her home. She pulled her hood as far as she could over he head. The loud sounds and excitement were getting to be to much for her, making her rethink the idea of coming here. Temple looks at the ground and shuffles along with the crowd.
The beauty of the washed city could make many a people forget home. Oddir twirls around slowly, taking everything thing. As he inhales, he could practically feel the magical aura that the infrastructure gives off. " I see why my path would lead me here, there is so much to learn and artifacts to test" Oddir speaks to himself excitedly.
Eartha is very temped to disobey the rules and run off and explore on her own, but decides not to and heads to the assembly with the with the group. As Eartha arrived to the assembly, she notices two girls, one with silver hair, and one with purple hair, and sits down next to them
The clerk gives you an unexcited run down of rules.
“There’s no killin’ or mamin’ or stealin’. No going into the Mistborn Forest of the Council Towers. Head on into the assembly. You hafta’, so don’t go runnin off.”
Inside, as you shuffle along with the packed crowd, an enormous cathedral is the centerpiece of the cityscape. Every building, brick, and bridge is washed white and stuccoed with choral skeleton fossils.
" I am Seline Nuers from the Northern Falls." The clerk watched her hazel eyes nervously search the crowd. "I work with elemental magic and potions" The clerk still stood, watching her. Seline held her gaze, seeming very confident.
"Hello," Ember exclaims strongly. "I am Ember Orina, from Orina village. I am experienced in elemental magic and-," the clerk cuts her off,"That's enough." Ember begins to sweat as her nerves kick in. She notices the clerk scribbling down notes about her. The clerk jots down how Ember has blue long hair, and a dark look in her eye. Before she can read anymore the clerk exclaims,"You can go," in a fierce tone. She gazes through the gates and makes her way in.
"I am Zarina Notovia," she says nervously with her hand shaking. Rina shifted her weight and said, "I'm from the Kingdom of Rosada. I am an archer." She twisted her purple hair in her fingers as she watched the clerks eyes get wide. The clerked waved her on and Rina followed order.
The young man stutters momentarily then quickly collects himself. “I’m Esdel Alypius Gandibert, Duke of West Waymoore, a Magicks user.” Esdels’s eyes shifted nervously, looking at the different faces in the crowd. He wipes his sweaty palms on his pants then scratched his nose, the clerk quickly scribbles down his status and his anxious demeaner. Shifting his weight from foot to foot, attempting to control his anxiety as the clerk scribbled down more, Esdel peered over the woman to see what she was writing. The clerk’s scribbled hand writing jolted down simple words of the things that defined Esdel’s appearance. Freckles, wavy brown hair, pale, tall, lanky; all of the following was true about the young duke’s look and yet it made him uncomfortable causing him to furrow his brows upward in a worried expression. The silence between the clerk and the duke, made Esdel sallow hard and look down at the ground avoiding any eye contact at all.
Weary about the large amount of people Ronin can not keep his gaze upon the clerk. Annoyed by this the clerk repeats him self "Name, land, and skill please." Startled Ronin starts to answer his question "Sorry, I am Ronin Darbinyan a swordsman in training ma'am." The nods her head and writes do everything Ronin had said and lets him pass. As Ronin walked by the clerk had seen through his messy reddish-brown hair, his red eye. "That's quite the eye boy" remarked the clerk as Ronin walked pass.
"Chimodo Fark...." Chim trails off not knowing anything about himself. He starts to panic, sweat trailing down the nape of his neck. "I-I'm sorry ma'am I have amnesia an-" the clerk cuts him off with words that shock both Chim and his friend. "Chim-Chimodo Fark! The great war hero of Sebaughskin! You look much diiferent sir." The clerk notices your tall, scrawny, figure. Chim sweeps his shaggy brown hair out of his eyes and nervously scratches his head searching for what to say.
I am Eartha Starry, I come from the North Kingdom. As I am talking I notice her noting about my white hair, blue eyes, and tall height. I am a navigator.
The clerk makes a face as she looks Basil up and down, taking in the abnormality of her purple hair and bright green eyes.
"Basil Bacik of Altavista. I'm proficient in the magic of earth elements," Basil says confidently, showing that she believes she belongs here. The clerk writes way more than what Basil had told her. Basil looks over at her friend Chim, a scrawny kid with messy hair, and realizes she's a little more nervous than she anticipated. She looks forward, over the heads of thousands, as the clerk tells her to move on through the giant white walls, taking in the buildings glistening in the bright sun. They somehow look new and old at the same time.
Apollyon clears his throat and responded to the clerk in an unwavering voice," I am Apollyon son of Ares. I come from the kingdom of Ares, and I am of little skill with a blade, but could be useful in political matters." The clerk looks up with some surprise on their face but just continues to write, noting Apollyon's dark hair, strong build and family name.
Temple looks down at her feet, shuffling nervously, "Temple Vice, from the land of Tilk," The clerk wrote down what she said very quickly, "And I'm good with daggers..." Her voice trailed off as the clerk passed her on.
" I am Titania, Kingdom of Rosada, I am an aspiring archer" she claims in a confident but slightly drawn tone. She then notes of her medium toned body, long silver hair, porclein skin and blue eyes. The clerk notes this and replies, "well are you just going to stand there?"
Trendran, weary from journeying across the lands answers to the clerk "Trendran Frankles from the land of Maladrin, i can do some archery and hold a sword." the clerk simply writes everything down, also noting the fact that he is quite dirty for being of Maladrin decent. The clerk adds that he could be a soldier then remarks to him "continue on in the line, and stop at the barrack's sign up on the way"
" I am Oddir Magnusson, son of Magnus, and I hail from the Mordmire Tribe and I am a aspiring enchanter and scholar" Oddir explained. The clerk scoffs at him, seeing how Oddir is wearing clothes of a shaman and lack of hygiene, "No kidding, just get in line barbarian."
